WINDFARM GETS BLOWN ONTO THE RADAR

New Zealand’s biggest energy company, Contact Energy, has gained resource consent to develop and build up to 168 wind turbines near the coast between Port Waikato and Raglan. Although the turbines at the Hauauru Ma Raki wind farm could not be more than 150metres high, they would generate up to 504 megawatts of power, which is enough to power around 170,000 homes. Reportedly the consents process is over, but development is likely to be some years away. See J189740 for updates on this project.
