TOWN SQUARE ON THE HORIZON FOR HOROWHENUA

A $7 million dollar town square redevelopment is nearly ready to begin in Horowhenua. Head of the libraries trust, Joann Ransom told residents the Te Takere centre will be the embodiment of a town square and would become a “centre point for different cultural, arts and educational events”. This involves redeveloping the city’s old Countdown supermarket to include the Library on one side and retail stores on the other. The Horowhenua District Council has put $600,000 towards the project as well as purchasing the building at a cost of $1.6 million. The Te Takere fundraising group will raise the rest. The Whats On Report has been following this project since 2005. See J62604 for this listing.
