REDUCED FEES IN TAURANGA HOPE TO REVIVE INDUSTRY

In a bid to revive the Tauranga building industry, the council has started to slash development fees. Building impact fees have dropped by 40% from $12,600 down to $5,100, and subdivision fees will drop by about a quarter to a third in most of the city’s development areas. These fee reductions follow pressure from within the industry, with the hope that the drop in fees will make house building more affordable – particularly for first time home owners. The proposed new scale of fees would take effect on 1 July 2012, and will go out for public consultation from March 19, once the council formally adopts the draft plan for 2012-22.
