SMALL INCREASE ON THE HORIZON FOR CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY

After a year of falling levels of residential consents and falling house values, global property consultants Rider Levett Backnall are predicting a growth in construction of 1 percent in Auckland, Wellington and 3 percent growth in Christchurch by the end of 2011. Wellington director Grant Watkins said reduced Government spending will have a direct impact on the non-residential construction market and there were also very few large construction projects on the horizon. Construction projects relating to health and education have remained steady.
