REZONING CHRISTCHURCH – TO DEMOLISH OR REBUILD?

213 quake-damaged, orange zoned homes have now been red-zoned and will be demolished, with forty-two homes rezoned green. The newly red-zoned properties were in parts of Avonside, Burwood, Dallington and Wainoni, with only insured homeowners eligible for the Government to make an offer on their properties. The forty-two green-zone houses are eligible to begin the process of repairing or rebuilding, though the current difficulty of getting insurance in Canterbury may slow down this process. More than 10,000 properties were originally orange-zoned, with 653 properties left to be rezoned (401 in Southshore), and 2100 white-zoned properties in the Port Hills.
