RESIDENTIAL REBUILD ONE STEP CLOSER

Up to 16,000 new houses could be constructed in Christchurch within the next five years to replace those affected by earthquakes. The worst-hit suburbs were announced last week, as part of CERA’s traffic-light categorisation of residential land in Christchurch. Approximately 5,000 homeowners in the red zone, which includes streets in Avonside, Avondale, Bexley, Brooklands, Dallington, and New Brighton, have been offered the chance to sell their properties to the Government. New areas for residential development include the 2,600 lots at Prestons Road Subdivision (J90531) and a further 160 lots are planned for Aidanfield Subdivision (J93717). For further details on Christchurch’s residential land zones see J132564.
