The building contract for the Wiri private-public partnership prison (J112810) in New Zealand has been let to New Zealand’s largest construction company Fletcher Construction. The Wiri prison in South Auckland will house 960 low-to-high security prisoners and be located next to the Auckland Regional Women's Correctional Facility. The company is part of a consortium called Serco along with Spotless Facility Services, which will do maintenance, and equity partners John Laing, InfraRed and Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC). The design and construction of the prison will cost $300 million. Fletcher Construction says it will take approximately two and a half years to complete, finishing halfway through 2015. It is expected at least 1000 jobs will be created during construction.
