Point Dorset, an integral part of New Zealand’s history, is being recognised by the Wellington City Council as an important place to preserve. The undeveloped steep hillside was used by Maori and Europeans to protect the entrance to Wellington Harbour; it was also used up until the 1990s as a place for military training. A draft reserve management plan has been released and is open to public consultation until August 2011. The council is looking to spend up to $400,000 on the project and will decide on a course of action this year. To follow this project, see J130467 or Contact Us for more information.
