NEW TREND FOR INNER-CITY AUCKLAND BUILDINGS

Construction activity is far from slowing down in New Zealand’s largest city and sustainable building practices are becoming more commonplace in inner-city Auckland. Concept designs have been drawn up for a state-of-the-art 13 storey student accommodation tower on Rutland St, the site of the former Green Elephant Thai Restaurant. The building will contain green technologies and include 142 self-contained studios (each with a bedroom and ensuite), and communal lounge and kitchen facilities on the ground floor. The tower will be a welcome addition to the area with construction expected to begin in October; for further details on this development see WOR listing J140058. A similar development just over two kilometres away, The Geyser, is well into construction with completion scheduled for the end of 2012. The $32 million office block will have the ability to naturally cool and heat itself and have its own rainwater collection system and is in line to be the first office building in the country to receive a six green-star rating. See J31880 for details of this exciting development.
