NEW BRIDGE TO EASE CHRISTMAS CONGESTION

The $40 million dollar Kopu Bridge has just opened three years ahead of schedule and should make holiday-makers lives much easier. Work began on the bridge in July 2009 replacing the previous single lane bridge which was 84 years old. During past holiday seasons, queues for the bridge have gotten up to 10km long. The new bridge is 12.95 meters wide and features a cycle lane. Over 700 people including Prime Minister John Key came to the official opening. The Whats On has been following this project for a whopping 16 years, see U8740.
