MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR REALIGNMENT OPENS IN DUNEDINOne of the country’s major State Highway projects, State Highway 88 has just opened to traffic this week. The $13.1 million dollar project connects the existing central city and harbourside routes while diverting traffic away from the front of the new Forsyth Barr Stadium. DCC project engineer Evan Matheson said the alignment was "a significant safety improvement" given it reduced traffic flows through a busy pedestrian area, with foot traffic projected to increase during the Rugby World Cup. The Whats On Report has been following the SH88 Realignment (J89208) since 2009 and the Forsyth Barr Stadium (J3038) since 2001. Source: The Otago Daily Times, 12 July 2011 (AG) |
