MILFORD TUNNEL DART STILL AWAITING SIGN OFF

The Department of Conservation has extended the submission date for the controversial Milford Dart tunnel project until 20 February 2012. The 10.2 km tunnel would cut travel distances from 304 km one-way to only 125 km. The tunnel is expected to cost $170,000,000 and has so far received over 196 submissions. The project has been seen as controversial because of the location of both entrances in national parks, Fiordland National Park in the west and Mount Aspiring National Park in the east. Track progress on J78963.
