MAJOR MAKEOVER PROPOSED FOR ROTORUA LAKE FRONT

Tourist hot-spot Rotorua has another attraction to promote after plans were unveiled for a new recreation, lifestyle, visitor and retail destination on its lakefront. The plans have been developed by Pukeroa Lakefront Holdings (PLH) and the Rotorua District Council and will be developed on the site of the QE hospital and other vacant land. PLH’s chairman Malcolm Short said the master plan vision for developing the site would potentially see investment in a mix of upmarket retail, dining, recreation, cultural, accommodation, and health and wellbeing facilities. Further details will not be released until geo-technical investigations are completed on-site. Rotorua Mayor Kevin Winters said the Council anticipate that the large-scale, high-quality development will play a big part in Rotorua being able to recapture the status of one of New Zealand's preeminent visitor and lifestyle destinations.
