The Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology’s (NMIT) Arts and media building has won acclaim for engineering and commercial architectural excellence at the New Zealand Wood Timber Design Awards in Auckland. The building, designed by Nelson-based architect Irving Smith Jack, uses a damage avoidance earthquake design and was built with pre-stressed timber sourced from within an 80km radius of Nelson. The building is also a finalist at the 2011 UK Structural Awards. Make sure to follow the Whats On for all future building jobs at the NMIT.
