INVESTIGATION INTO NEW WELLINGTON ARENA UNDERWAY

Debate over the possibility of building a new multi-million dollar concert venue across from the Westpac Stadium in Wellington continues. The Wellington City Council are preparing to begin a three-year investigation into the feasibility of a new 10,000-seat, $80 million dollar arena to host popular music acts and overseas conventions. Recent studies suggest the existing TSB Bank Arena on Queens Wharf, with a capacity of 5,600, is neither in the right location nor the right shape to be revamped to such a scale. The development is being labelled as an ‘urgent priority’ by Council who have revealed investigation will include the possibility of forming a partnership with private investors in order to get it underway faster.
