HOBSONVILLE POINT, A BASE FOR A SUSTAINABLE NEW COMMUNITY

The relocation of defence activities at Auckland’s Hobsonville Point has provided an opportunity to develop the site in direct response to the future growth needs of Auckland as part of the Northern Strategic Growth Area. The Hobsonville Land Company (HLC), a Crown entity, was formed to create a guiding vision and master plan for the peninsula which was quickly recognised as having the potential to be developed into a sustainable new community. The project has involved the master planning and design of a residential and mixed-use development to eventually provide serviced land for a community of more than 3000 homes, two schools, a specialised marine industry precinct and associated community facilities.
