Hamilton City is offering to play host to Christchurch businesses left devastated by the recent earthquake. Hamilton mayor Julie Hardaker said Hamilton City Council and Opportunity Hamilton are in talks with Christchurch organizations about the possibility of relocating. More than one third of Christchurch’s central business district will have to be demolished, meaning many business owners will be unable to return to their premises for quite some time. Property developer Ian Patton said many Christchurch companies would fit perfectly in the Waikato region.
