The Newtown Park Flat upgrades are in full swing with tenants rejoicing after moving into the first completed Fire Station block. The eight story building began its upgrade last February, which affected more than 200 tenants in six buildings. The upgraded flat has newly developed community gardens and emphasis has been put on reducing social isolation and helping build social networks with groups and classes at other council housing sites. The total upgrade cost is $32 million with the Russell block to be completed next and ready for occupation in May 2012. Blocks to be completed by February 2013 include Zoo block, Stadium Tower, and Mansfield block. See WOR listing J100156.
