Construction Contracts Act Under Review

A review is now underway on the Construction Contracts Act 2002 with the release of a discussion document by Building and Construction Minister Maurice Williamson. Currently the Act excludes residential construction contracts from clauses relating to progress payments and the enforcement of adjudication orders. The discussion document questions the relevance of the clause in light of the fact that it can make it more difficult for consumers and contractors to resolve disputes and obtain remuneration. Submissions on this topic must be made to the Department of Building and Housing before 16 December 2010.
