The October 2010 building consent statistics show numbers falling for the fourth consecutive month, reaching the lowest point since July 2009. In the residential sector, new dwelling units including apartments was down 21%, excluding apartments, down 17% and new apartment units, down 77%. Non residential building consents issued for October were down 17%, with six of the 11 building types showing decreases in value. On a positive note, shops, restaurants and taverns contributed to a large 21% of consents, followed by education buildings at 20%.
