CHRISTCHURCH’S INFRASTRUCTURE DEAL GETS THUMBS UP

New Zealand’s biggest ever civil engineering project has been formally signed off, paving the way for $2 billion worth of work to Christchurch’s earthquake battered infrastructure. An alliance of five private contractors consisting of Fulton Hogan, Downer Construction, Fletcher Construction, McConnell Dowell, City Care, as well as a 250-man management team, have been appointed. Companies will be awarded contracts in-house, with more work and bonuses for firms which complete jobs at a higher standard. Works are expected to take 5 years. See J135277 for the nitty gritty on this contract.
