BILLION DOLLAR WIND FARM BLOWING FORWARD

The $1.6 billion Castle Hill Wind Farm in Wairarapa has been given the go ahead, and will become the country’s biggest. The Genesis Energy proposal is to run along hillsides through northern Wairarapa with up to 268 turbines that will staunchly stand at 155m high, providing power for up to 370,000 homes in the region. According to Genesis Energy’s chief executive Albert Brantley, the wind farm will provide 185 jobs during construction, 40 ongoing jobs and bring $247 million into the Masterton and Tararua Districts.
